1.5 Is it really free?

AL Client is 100% free. There is no registration fee, no upgrades, no advertizements, and no banners. The client was written to make playing Ashavar's Legacy easier for our players, and if other players like it too, then all the better.

Installation

2.1 How do I download it?

The client can be downloaded from the downloads page. Click on the file to download it, and save it to a temporary directory, for example c:\temp.

2.2 How do I install it?

Once the file is saved you your local hard drive, simply run it to start installation. You can run a program with start/run and then either type in the path and name, or choose browse. You can also run the installation program from a dos prompt. Once the install program is running, you just need to select the default directory or choose a new one.

You can either bring up a dialog box for the feature, or you can use text commands with the # symbol. Type #help to get a list of available commands.

Usage

4.1 How do I connect?

You can connect to the most recently accessed MUD (defaults to ashavar.com port 2150) by simply hitting enter on a line by itself, while not connected to a server. You can also connect from the connect menu, or you can use the #connect command.

4.2 Why doesn't alt-(key) bring up my menu?

If the main window or the command window has focus, then they are stealing your alt-(key) attempts. You can set focus on the AL Client background menu, and your typing will still go to the right place as well as the alt key working correctly.

4.3 How do I refresh the screen?

If the screen becomes invalid for any reason (like it scrolls while you are holding down alt-tab) then you can use the ESC key to refresh.

4.4 How do I start the mapper?

You can start the mapper with the mapper menu, control-m, or the #map command.

4.5 How do I use the automapper?

You can start the automapper with the mapper menu, control-a, or the #automap command. You can change the default distance between new rooms using the #automap command as well. After the automapper is started, type look to add the current room, then move around to add additional rooms.

4.6 How do I use semicolons with stacking on?

If you have stacking turned on in the client (and turned OFF in the MUD itself) then you can put a backslash '\' before your stacking character to tell the client to ignore it. Example: \;)

4.7 How do I get ! to repeat a stack of commands?

You can make an alias for the ! symbol to use the #resend command. Example: #alias ! #resend.
